Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Come, Creator Spirit, visit us,
Come and enlighten the souls of Thy children;
Fill our hearts with grace and light,
Thou who didst create all things with love.

Thou, the Gift, the envoy of the Most High God,
Who hast made Thyself for us the Defender,
Thou art the Love, the Fire, the living Fountain,
Strength and sweetness of the Lord’s grace.

Give unto us the sevenfold gifts of Thy love;
Thou, the Finger of the Father’s right hand,
Thou whose reign and coming He hath promised,
Thou who dost inspire our tongues to sing.

Put Thy light within us, set us aflame;
In our hearts spread abroad the love of the Father.
Come and strengthen our weakness,
And grant us Thine eternal might.

Drive far away the enemy who threateneth us;
Hasten to grant us peace,
That we may walk beneath Thy guidance,
And our lives be made clean from sin.

Let us behold the Face of the Most High,
And reveal unto us the Face of the Son;
And Thou, the common Spirit who dost unite them,
Come into our hearts, that we may believe in Thee forever.

Glory be to God the Father on high,
Glory to the Son who rose from the tomb,
Glory to the Spirit of Strength and Wisdom,
World without end. Amen.

Psalm 68:2–3 (67)

Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered:
and let them that hate Him flee from before His face.
As smoke vanisheth, so let them vanish away:
as wax melteth before the fire,
so let the wicked perish at the presence of God.

Psalm 35:1–9 (34)

Judge Thou, O Lord, them that wrong me;
fight against them that fight against me.
Take hold of arms and shield,
and rise up to help me.

Bring forth the sword, and shut up the way against them that persecute me;
say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.

Let them be confounded and ashamed that seek after my soul;
let them be turned back and put to confusion that devise evil against me.

Let them be as dust before the wind,
and let the Angel of the Lord scatter them.
Let their way be dark and slippery,
and let the Angel of the Lord pursue them.

For without cause have they hidden for me their snare;
without cause have they reproached my soul.
Let the snare which they know not come upon them;
and the net that they have hidden, catch them;
and into that very snare let them fall.

But my soul shall rejoice in the Lord,
and shall be delighted in His salvation.

Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel
(Composed by Pope Leo XIII)

Most glorious Prince of the heavenly hosts,
Archangel Saint Michael, defend us in battle,
and in the terrible warfare which we carry on against the Principalities and Powers,
against the rulers of this world of darkness,
against the spirits of wickedness in the high places.

Come thou to the aid of men, whom God created immortal,
fashioned to His own image and likeness,
and redeemed at a great price from the tyranny of the devil.

With the army of the blessed Angels,
fight this day the battle of the Lord,
as once thou didst fight against the leader of the proud, Lucifer,
and his apostate host;
for they were powerless to stand against thee,
neither was their place found any more in Heaven.
And that cruel serpent, the ancient dragon,
who is called the devil and Satan,
was cast down with his angels into the abyss,
that he might no more seduce the nations.

Behold, this first enemy and slayer of mankind
hath lifted himself up again.
Transformed as an angel of light,
he goeth about with the whole multitude of the wicked spirits,
invading the earth,
that he may blot out the Name of God and of His Christ,
and seize upon, slay, and cast into everlasting perdition
the souls that were destined for a crown of eternal glory.

This wicked dragon poureth out, as a most foul flood,
the venom of his malice upon men of depraved mind and corrupt heart;
the spirit of lying, of impiety, of blasphemy;
and the deadly breath of lust and of every iniquity and vice.
His most cunning enemies have filled with gall and bitterness
the Church, the Spouse of the Immaculate Lamb,
and have laid impious hands upon all her treasures.

Therefore arise, O invincible Prince;
bring help against the attacks of these lost spirits
to the people of God,
and give them the victory.

Holy Church venerateth thee as her guardian and protector;
to thee the Lord hath entrusted the souls of the redeemed,
to be led into the heavenly felicity.

Pray, then, the God of peace,
that He may crush Satan beneath our feet,
that he may no longer retain men captive
and do injury to the Church.

Offer our prayers before the face of the Most High,
that He may quickly find mercy for us,
and that thou mayest lay hold of the dragon, the old serpent,
who is the devil and Satan,
and cast him bound into the bottomless pit,
that he may no more seduce the nations. Amen.

Let Us Pray

O God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we call upon Thy holy Name,
and humbly beseech Thy mercy,
that, through the intercession of the Immaculate Virgin Mary,
Thy ever-blessed Mother,
of the glorious Archangel Saint Michael,
and of all Thy Saints,
Thou wouldst vouchsafe to help and defend us
against Satan and all the unclean spirits
that prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Litany of Deliverance

God of Heaven, God of Earth,
God of Angels, God of Archangels,
God of Patriarchs, God of Prophets,
God of Apostles, God of Martyrs,
God of Confessors, God of Virgins,
God who hast power to give life after death and rest after toil:

Since there is no God beside Thee,
and none other can be,
for Thou art the Creator of all things,
visible and invisible,
whose reign shall have no end:

We humbly prostrate ourselves before Thy glorious Majesty,
beseeching Thee to deliver us by Thy power
from all the tyranny of the infernal spirits,
from their snares, their deceit, and their furious malice.

Deign, O Lord, to grant unto us Thy mighty protection,
and to keep us safe and sound in Thy peace.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

V. From the snares of the devil,
R. Deliver us, O Lord.

V. That Thy Church may serve Thee in peace and liberty,
R. We beseech Thee, hear us.

V. That Thou wouldst crush down all enemies of Thy Church,
R. We beseech Thee, hear us.

Final Prayer of Submission to God

Almighty God, may Thy holy will be done in us and through us.
Shelter us beneath the shadow of Thy wings,
and let Thy holy Angels guard us in peace.
Grant that we may ever walk in Thy light,
and live in the strength of Thy grace.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Closing Prayer

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be thou our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits
who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls.
Amen.
