Legal-administrative office of the Patriarchal Curia
The Pontifical Chancery is a central legal-administrative office of the Patriarchal Curia. Led by the Chancellor of the Pontifical Court, it represents the continuity of the Holy Apostolic See through record-keeping, preservation of legislative acts, and certification of official documents.
The Chancellor acts as an ecclesiastical notary and may represent the Roman-Ruthenian Pope in delegated duties. The Chancery is non-jurisdictional: it supports governance but does not itself replace the competent legislative, executive, or judicial authority.
Administratively, the Chancery forms part of the General Affairs section of the Pontifical Secretariat. Its oversight extends to councils, commissions, committees, and certain offices of documentary and archival importance.
