The Four Marks of the Church are the qualities named in the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed: one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. They describe the Church’s identity and vocation rather than the perfection of every Christian.
The four marks
The Church is one through her Lord and faith; holy because she is consecrated to God; catholic because she proclaims the fullness of the faith to all peoples; and apostolic because she is founded upon the apostles and continues their teaching and ministry.
Visible life
These marks are expressed through common faith, sacramental communion, episcopal order, missionary witness, charity, and continuity with apostolic tradition.
