Progress through demonstrated mastery
Pontifical Georgian College serves a diverse body of adult learners whose previous education, ministerial experience, location, and responsibilities may differ substantially. Its academic model therefore measures what a student can understand, articulate, and responsibly do.
Competency-based education permits progress through demonstrated mastery rather than classroom time alone. Guided reading, quizzes, written work, practical examination, and supervised formation are used as appropriate to the subject. Flexibility in delivery is joined to clear expectations in theology, Sacred Scripture, liturgy, pastoral practice, canon law, and the other disciplines of ecclesial life.

Diplomate
S.T.Dip. · S.Phil.Dip.
The Diplomate in Sacred Theology marks completion of the Minor Seminary programme, including its distinct formation tracks. The Diplomate in Sacred Philosophy recognises foundational studies in philosophy and related disciplines.
Licentiate
S.T.L. · S.Phil.L. · J.C.L.
Licentiate studies provide advanced formation in sacred theology, philosophy, or canon law. The S.T.L. or an accepted equivalent is a prerequisite for priesthood in the Church.
Doctorate
S.T.D. · S.Phil.D. · J.C.D. · S.L.D.
Doctoral degrees, other than the honorific S.L.D. for laymen, require original research and the successful defence of a dissertation before the appropriate academic authority.

Structured pathways
Minor Seminary
A manageable foundation designed to accompany other university study or to stand independently for those preparing for the minor orders. Courses emphasise guided self-study, substantive quizzes, and limited written reflection.
Major Seminary
Advanced formation combining theological and pastoral depth with focused written work, multiple assessments, and the practical preparation required for ordination and ecclesiastical service.
Accreditation and educational scope
Ecclesiastical formation within the Church
Pontifical Georgian College exists solely for religious and ecclesiastical formation. Its programmes prepare clergy, minor clerics, lay leaders, and others serving the United Roman-Ruthenian Church and its constituent jurisdictions.
The College does not seek or maintain secular or governmental accreditation. Its credentials are ecclesiastical and are accredited solely by the Church for purposes within its own canonical, academic, and ministerial life. These programmes stand outside the scope of secular accreditation.
The College recognises the legitimate role of secular accreditation. Students who require a credential for civil employment, professional licensure, transfer to a secular institution, or another purpose dependent upon governmental or regional recognition should attend an appropriately recognised institution for that purpose.
